The applications are completely customizable to create a seamless user experience for Web-based entertainment and communication services.
Application Framework - The key to Pepper Linux is Pepper’s unique Application Framework. The Framework integrates Mozilla Firefox, the premiere open-source Web browser, with optimized implementations of Java and Adobe / Macromedia Flash. It includes all the Javascript and XML components needed to run full-fidelity Ajax applications.
Digital Media - The Framework includes proprietary audio, video and voice CODECs and instant messaging protocol stacks. It also provides persistent and shareable XML-based application packages, automatic online updates, media streaming and downloading, UPnP, Zeroconf / mDNS, learning IR remote control and photo editing and sharing.
Linux System Software - Pepper Linux is built on system software consisting of an embedded Linux kernel, high-performance X11 and GTK+ graphics, auto-configuring Wi-Fi networking and wired USB and wireless Bluetooth peripheral support.
Secure - Unlike other platforms, Pepper Linux has been built from the start to provide a secure application environment that shields the system from the hostile world of the Internet. For example, all applications are digitally signed and run in individually protected sandboxes.
In summary, Pepper Linux includes all the software and services needed to create a low-cost, seamless user experience for wireless entertainment and communication devices built around the convergence of the Web and digital media.
